About Chiropractic:
Chiropractic is a form of health care that uses spinal adjustments to improve health issues related to the muscles, skeleton and nerves in the body (the musculoskeletal system).
In Australia, practicing chiropractors are government registered and regulated health professionals. Australian chiropractors must complete a five year university course and continually meet professional standards set by the Chiropractic Board of Australia and the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
Techniques used:
The Chiropractors at Walker Family Chiropractic use a variety of techniques designed to help with specific concerns or to improve specific functions. These techniques include:
Diversified manual adjustments
Sacro-Occipital Technique, including Cranial techniques
Activator methods
Webster Technique
Drop-Piece techniques
Soft-tissue therapy
Peripheral Joint Manual Adjustments and Mobilisations
Having such a range of techniques to choose from allows your chiropractor to find the safest, most effective and most comfortable adjustments for your care.
New Patients
On your first visit you will need to fill out a new patient form. This may take 5-10 minutes and is important for us to ensure you receive the best care. Please also bring any previous X-rays/ scans that might be relevant.
Your first appointment will involve your chiropractor asking you about your health history and then conducting a full examination. This examination will include chiropractic, neurologic and orthopaedic tests.
Your chiropractor will discuss their findings with you as well as any proposed treatment or further tests (e.g. sometimes X-rays may be required). Normally, your first visit will include treatment.
Types of people we work with:
Newborns: A rapidly expanding field of chiropractic care is paediatrics. The chiropractors at Walker Family Chiropractic have a special interest and training in providing paediatric chiropractic care.
Children: Falls, bumps and crashes are a normal part of growing up and exploring our environment. However, because children grow so quickly, some of the smaller problems caused by these accidents can create bigger issues later in life. Chiropractic care may help restore normal biomechanical function in children, alleviate discomfort and pain, allowing for normal physical and neurological development to occur.
Athletes: Elite athletes have long used chiropractors for treatment of injuries, injury prevention and maximising performance. By using a whole body approach in assessing the athlete, chiropractors can identify and correct poor movement patterns or imbalances.
Adults: Back pain and headache/migraine are two of the most common reasons people visit a chiropractor. Effective care of these concerns is part of the reason why chiropractic is so popular today. Over time, changes to our lifestyle has led to an increase in sedentary activities which can be more stressful on the spine. Chiropractors not only address the symptoms but look for an underlying cause.
Pregnant women: Chiropractic care throughout pregnancy is becoming more popular with many women. As the mother’s body changes (physically and hormonally) to accommodate the developing baby, new stress and pressures are placed on the spine and pelvis. Chiropractic care may help decrease some of the discomfort experienced throughout pregnancy and in recovery after the birth.
The elderly: One of the main reasons older people in the population visit chiropractors is to manage pain from sore joints. For the elderly, chiropractic care can reduce pain levels and increase mobility and independence. This can in turn improve muscle tone, bone density and mental health. Other benefits include maintaining joint movement to decrease or prevent the effects of degeneration. Also, because chiropractic works with the nervous system, it can help with balance issues.
